Nell’s Book Hunt — Second Of The Day

Hi!  It’s Ivana again.  I just couldn’t wait to share this bit of news.  Look what just popped up on my computer as now available on Kindle!

DragonsongTitle: Dragonsong
Author: Anne McCaffrey
Series: Pern Harper Hall Trilogy Book 01
Publication Date: March 1976
Genre: Fantasy
$4.98 on Amazon

Publisher’s DescriptionEvery two hundred years or so, shimmering Threads fall from space, raining death and black ruin on Pern. The great dragons of Pern hurl themselves through the beleagured skies, flaming tongues of fire to destroy deadly Thread and save the Planet. But it was not Threadfall that made young Menolly unhappy. It was her father who betrayed her ambition to be a Harper, who thwarted her love of music. Menolly had no choice but to run away. When, suddenly, she came upon a group of fire lizards, wild and smaller relatives of the fire-breathing dragons, she let her music swirl around them. She taught nine of them to sing. Suddenly Menolly was no longer alone — she was Mistress of Music and Ward of the dazzling fire dragons.

I have been waiting and waiting for what for me were the first three Pern books ever to come out in Kindle format.  I fell in love with these books at a pretty young age.  If I remember correctly, it was after reading the Harper Hall trilogy — which were housed in the kid’s section of the library — that the librarians graduated me to “upstairs” — the adult part of the library — so I could continue reading books in the Pern series.  I remember having absolutely no idea how to conceptualize “thread” falling from the sky and why it was so dangerous, but I fell head-over-heels in love with the idea of a loyal and loving dragon riding on my shoulder and being my best friend.

I think this trilogy is the last of the Pern series to be published electronically in the US.  *I* haven’t been able to find the others, at least.  I’m SO very excited.

About Invested Ivana

I read fiction for entertainment and to escape my own world; so, I don’t want to read about “real” things. I read non-fiction to learn and be inspired. For the last several years, I’ve read mostly Urban Fantasy and other things supernatural. I also enjoy Historical Fiction. I love books that go deep into characters and worlds. I really want to know the characters, to be able to invest emotionally in them and their challenges. I like learning about cultures, so understanding the world is important to me as well.

  1. I also love this series and have read every McCaffrey written Pern story there is. I have met Anne McCaffrey’s son and grand daughter and they are both charming. I would highly recommend this series to any middle reader getting ready to transition out of the kids section.

  2. I am so afraid to go back and re-read these as I fear the magic will be lost.
