In Nell’s Opinion – Autographs

What do you think of autographs?  Autographed books, specifically.  Would you or have you stood in line for an author’s autograph?  Was it worth it?

I have been caught standing in line for an autograph.  I bought three books from the same author and had her sign them all.  I’m not exactly sure why I had her sign them all.  One signature should have been sufficient.  Besides, I couldn’t read her signature anyway.  I think the thrill came because I actually got to meet her face to face and even though she asked generic questions, I got to talk to her.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I think it’s fun to meet authors.  It’s not like I stalk them or anything. Really, I don’t.  The last author I asked for an autograph never asked my name and all I said was “hi”.  I know, riveting conversation, right?  Well, if you hadn’t guessed by now, I’m somewhat an introvert.  If you are an author and if I’m standing in your line then more likely than not will you totally miss me.  I’ll be in and out like The Shadow.  I like writing, hence I can write this blog and communicate by email, but I truly dislike making small talk.  Ug.  If you are of the same mind, have I got a deal for you.

Have any of you out there in cyberspace ever heard of Authorgraphs? It’s a way to digitally get your favorite author’s autograph. The concept isn’t like autographing your e-book, but it does give you notification that the Authorgraph is ready and you can send it directly to your Kindle to pair with the e-book in a collection you’ve created on your Kindle. I think this is just fun.

I occasionally get fan girlish over small things – okay, I get fan girlish over anything that deals with my favorite authors- so I requested a couple of Authorgraphs. I haven’t received all of them yet because the author themselves have to push the button to get it to me, but I’m excited nonetheless. I didn’t have to stand in line with a bunch of people. I didn’t have to buy tickets. I didn’t have to travel to a different city. I sat on my fairly well padded butt and scrolled through the lists of authors that have signed up for this opportunity to give us readers a thrill.

One author commented to me “Why on earth would you want my autograph?” I told him that when he became rich and famous I would bring the authorgraph from now and have him re-sign it THEN. He just chuckled and told me that he appreciated my support.
