Aspiring concert violist Emmaline Aurora Grace Andrews is torn between her love of family and her love of music. A year ago, she deferred entering a prestigious graduate program to help her parents recover from a devastating accident. Now the deferment is expiring, but her parents still need her. Worse, every time she plays her audition piece, she mangles it. Is it too late to be the musician she’d always dreamed of? Should she even try?

Determined to get clarity, Emmaline accepts a friend’s offer for a whirlwind European vacation. First Stop: a real live fantasy kingdom—the perfect place to sort wishes from reality.

Prince Kristos Andris was a respected captain in his nation’s military… Was. In the wake of the tragic death of his elder brother, he’s managed to avoid his duties as the new Crown Prince of Garronia for months. But now he must accept his responsibilities and leave his troops behind. Outraged at the restrictions of his new royal position, he’ll do anything for one last adventure. So when opportunity suddenly lands in his arms in the form of a dreamy-eyed American girl, he embraces it (and her) for all he’s worth. What’s the harm in a quick fling, after all? It won’t change what he knows he must do…

Only this is Garronia in the summertime, where passion has a way of ruining even the most sensible of plans.

Possible spoilers beyond this point.

Ruby LRuby_Lee 100ee says…

I never wanted to be a princess. Honestly, it seemed like a boring life. You would be expected to be good, polite, and have manners while wearing beautiful dresses. No, thank you. I hate dresses to this day. I am a little too sassy to be good and polite all the time, and I always end up wearing whatever I am eating. I am so not princess material.

While I love romance novels, fairy tales have never my thing so I didn’t know what to expect from Courted by Jennifer Chance. What I found was a feisty responsible women with her head in the clouds and a mouth that said exactly what she thought. I loved Emmaline Aurora Grace Andrews from the minute she stepped on the page. This was a self-sufficient woman that took care of herself and her parents and didn’t need a prince to rescue her. I take that back. There was the almost drowning incident but besides that she could have totally handled everything on her own. She wasn’t weak or stupid. She didn’t need the prince to make her relevant. In fact, he needed her to give him the courage to become the leader he needed to be.badge4v4

Courted is a brilliant romantic tale with a strong, funny female lead. The story is compelling and the love scenes are hot at an “R” rating but don’t get too graphic. The story has the power to suck you in and before you know it you are in the beautiful country of Garronia. But I warn you… once you are there, you won’t want to ever leave.

Lucyfer’s Corner

Lucy Face

4 paw prints – This book is really not my thing. Unless you are making me princess cat of the underworld, I don’t do fairy tales. However, it was nice to be reading again even if it was romantic goo. You haven’t heard from me and Ruby lately because our third family member, Hobbes, has been sick. The vet says that he doesn’t have much time left on this planet so we have been spending a lot of time with him. He is not in pain and I know Ruby will do what she needs to do to make sure he doesn’t suffer.

I am giving the book four paws – not for me but for Ruby.  Reading it made her happy and it was nice to see her smile. I may be a demon cat but I have a soft spot for family… just don’t tell anyone.  It will ruin my reputation and the minions may revolt.

About Ruby Lee

I have always loved reading because it is my escape, and I will read almost anything. Lately, I have been getting into nonfiction, which surprised the heck out of me. I am also into many types of romance, horror, and sci-fi with an occasional mystery or two. I promise that I will keep you on your toes because my reading preferences are all over the map. I feel I’m a tough reviewer. I rarely give five stars on any story because a five-star would have to be a book combination of The Stand meets Charlotte’s Web which in turn marries Dante’s Inferno and has an affair with Where the Sidewalk Ends. I think that if a story travels with you for the rest of your life, it should have a special distinction to set it apart.
