First of all, urban fantasy is my fave genre.
- Adventure – safest way to have an adventure
- Romance – fall in love for the first time over and over again
- Meet up with monsters w/o soiling myself
- Wade through death and destruction w/o soiling myself
- Sometimes animals talk and that would rock
- Good guys always win
- Live the life of a heroine for just a few hours
- Learn new and creative ways to use swear words
- Able to use a sword with ease
- Have super abilities

Gak! I can’t believe I missed out on answering this question! I like Urban Fantasy because it allows me to vicariously kick some major backside! The world is so full of injustice, and too many times it feels like there is very little we can do about it. In UF, the bad guys get toasted! It’s cathartic.
I also like the worldbuilding in UF, each series has it’s own rules and history to learn. That satisfies the part of me that likes learning about other cultures. I like the supernatural element because I don’t every have to worry much that anything in a UF book could really happen. I don’t want to read about child molesters or serial killers because those are real and horrible and I don’t want that in my world. But the supernatural is pure escapism for me because it’s not real. 🙂
