Publisher’s DescriptionAs a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.

There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?

Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…

Possible spoilers beyond this point.

What drew me to this book: Charley Davidson is hilarious! I adore this series, particularly in audio. I’m not usually a fan of paranormal romance, but craziness that is Charley is not to be denied! 😉 You never know what’s going to happen in a Charley Davidson novel.

What kept me reading: After the explosive revelations of Book 9, Charley is back at home and back at work in Albuquerque, dealing with problems both large and small. A video of Charley exorcising a demon surfaces on YouTube, and now she has ghost chasers chasing her. She’s been hired by an attorney who hates her to clear the name of his good friend. She’s chosen to help a young homeless girl who is “cursed” to die. And some powerful evil gods are after her child. To top it all off, her husband is paying child support for some other kid she doesn’t know about. It’s no wonder the weirdest things come out of her mouth; if your life were like hers, you’d be insane, too!

I find it harder and harder to write a coherent review with each new book in this series. The situations in which Charley finds herself are as outrageous as her sense of humor, and I sit stunned after each read. “Wow!” is about as coherent as I can get.

Why I recommend it: For laugh-out-loud fun, this series can’t be beat.  If you like audiobooks, you HAVE to listen to this series.  Lorelei King is fabulous as Charley.  She delivers those ADHD-inspired one-liners perfectly.  Overall, this is another very unique series that delivers fantastic humor, wonderful fantasy, and hot romance. If you like the UF/PNR genres at all, this is a must-read.

I am in love with Reyes. Well, truth be told, I believe there are a lot of people that love Reyes Alexander Farrow. He is one of top reasons I read this series. The top reason I read this series is the sarcasm factor. Charley Davidson is the queen of quips. She comes up with things, even in the heat of an argument that leave me laughing.

The mystery in this story was another good one, however (spoiler alert) I was disappointed with Charley and Reyes relationship development. They didn’t argue, but the series of incidents that went on between them was rediculous. Neither one would discuss their fear to the other and I just wanted to slap my head. Yes, it gets resolved, but there was a serious lack of dreamy, lusty Reyes in the mean time.

badge4v4Charley…..well, I don’t know how she can hold it together missing her daughter-probably because she doesn’t.  It’s for her own good that she doesn’t know where her child is, but when a parent is kept away from their child unwillingly it’s gonna get ugly. She also is holding secrets from Reyes. I don’t know if that should be or not. I understand her reasoning, but on the other hand, he’s been floating in this supernatural pool longer than Charley.

If you haven’t started this series, I would highly recommend doing so. The characters are vivid and dimensional. The concepts, while confusing once in awhile, are genius.  I love this series- it is a keeper.

About Invested Ivana

I read fiction for entertainment and to escape my own world; so, I don’t want to read about “real” things. I read non-fiction to learn and be inspired. For the last several years, I’ve read mostly Urban Fantasy and other things supernatural. I also enjoy Historical Fiction. I love books that go deep into characters and worlds. I really want to know the characters, to be able to invest emotionally in them and their challenges. I like learning about cultures, so understanding the world is important to me as well.
