TBR Tuesday at One Book Two
We have nagging TBR piles here at One Book Two. Those books that keep whispering to us to read them. Here are those books we waited for, anticipated, really want to read but time is not on our side. Maybe mentioning them here will give our reviewers respite from the nagging book voices! 😉
Invested Ivana wants to read…
This book has been on my TBR pile for a while now. Every time I see it or one of the other books in the series, I think, “I HAVE to make time to read that!” From the description, it sounds like a mash-up of Men In Black, high fantasy, and noir detective stories. I’m not sure when I’ll get to read it, but I’m really looking forward to it!
Title: Red Hot Steele (Daggers & Steele #1)
Author: Alex P. Berg
Description: Detective Jake Daggers likes his murder investigations the way he likes his women–straightforward, easy, and with a killer body.
So when his older-than-dust partner throws his back out on a goblin raid, his captain assigns him a new running mate–a sexy young half-elf by the name of Shay Steele.
It seems like a match made in Daggers’ imagination, but Steele’s no pushover. She’s a powerful forensic psychic, and she’s got sass oozing out of her boots.
In a debut case teeming with fire mages, foundries, and a dead guy who’s crispier than bacon, it’s pretty clear Daggers isn’t the only one getting a heaping helping of RED HOT STEELE.
Nervous Nellie wants to read…
Title: The Last Necromancer (Ministry of Curiousities)
Author: CJ Archer
Description: Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn’t raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.
People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.
Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly “made” creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world – Charlotte – but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he’s been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn’t trust?
Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they’re hunting.
Ruby Lee wants to read…
I know I am totally late to the party with this zombie thriller. I actually started listening to it during my move because I had so much drive time and I have wanted to read it forever. Now I can’t stop listening. The only problem is that Izzy ate my headphones and my new apartment complex thinks it’s creepy for people to sit outside in their cars for hours. Go figure.
Title: Feed (Newsflesh #1)
Author: Mira Grant
Description: The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beaten the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop.
The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED. Now, twenty years after the Rising, bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives – the dark conspiracy behind the infected.
The truth will get out, even if it kills them.
Kat Mandu wants to read…
One book that I have had on my shelves for two years now and haven’t gotten the opportunity to read is Avalon by Mindee Arnett. And it’s not that I don’t want to read it (I mean, who could say no to a YA version of the sci-fi show Firefly?) but it’s just that I haven’t had time! Which is shameful of me, I’ll admit. But I’m getting closer to getting time and I’m excited to read it and its sequel, Polaris.
Author: Mindee Arnett
Description: A ragtag group of teenage mercenaries who crew the spaceship Avalon stumble upon a conspiracy that could threaten the entire galaxy in this fascinating and fast-paced sci-fi adventure from author Mindee Arnett.
Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.
Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they’re damn good at it. Jeth doesn’t care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents’ ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he’ll go to get the freedom he’s wanted for so long.
Avalon is the perfect fit for teens new to sci-fi as well as seasoned sci-fi readers looking for more books in the YA space-and a great match for fans of Joss Whedon’s cult hit show Firefly.

Well, as a reviewer I have two TBR lists – one is books for review and the other is my nightstand list. My fun list I really could rearrange, it’s a little more difficult with my review books due to deadlines, etc. While I really can’t wait to get to all my review books, the ones I am most excited for at the moment are Book two and three of the Solis Invicti Series by Josie Jaffrey. I devoured the first book and immediately asked if I could review the next two books as well! The overall story is a paranormal romance with vampires, but it is unlike any I have read before.
The book that is calling my name for my nightstand list is The Court of Thorns and Roses. This novel has been out for awhile, but when it first came out the cover and title caught my attention. Now, after listening to people talk about it I really want to read it. I recently acquired a copy and have been patiently working my way towards reading it. I may or may not do some rearranging since it is currently on the bottom of the pile!
Title: The Price of Silver Solis Invicti #2 Bound by Silver Solis Invicti #3
Author: Josie Jaffrey
Description of The Price of Silver: In the straits of necessity, sometimes there isn’t room for freedom.
The Price of Silver is the second book in Josie Jaffrey’s Solis Invicti paranormal romance series, set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic London where a deadly infection threatens to wipe out humanity. The only people who can stem its advance are the Silver, a vampiric race who offer a simple exchange: protection in return for blood and subservience.
Emmy is fenced in by the city, the walls marking the edge of safety closing in around her and sealing her in with one vampire who loves her and another who wants her dead. As she struggles to keep herself and the people she cares about alive, her fellow humans chafe against their enforced submission, and it becomes clear that there are bigger schemes and greater deceptions in play than she had ever imagined.
All the while, the monsters wait outside the barricades for their moment. Of one thing she is certain: without the help of the Silver, the humans won’t be safe for long.
Description of Bound by Silver: If you’re living against the clock, try not to do it in a cage.
Exiled from the city and from the affections of the vampire who had loved her, Emmy finds herself pushed into a captivity she never expected to experience. With the bond to her former protector broken, she knows that the chance to turn Silver is now a monstrous obligation rather than a glittering opportunity.
In an unfamiliar place among unfamiliar people, Emmy feels deserted by those Silver she had thought of as friends, out of sight and out of mind. If only her enemies were equally forgetful.
Bound in Silver is the penultimate book in Josie Jaffrey’s Solis Invicti paranormal romance quadrilogy, set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic London where a deadly infection threatens to wipe out humanity. The only people who can stem its advance are the Silver, a vampiric race who offer a simple exchange: protection in return for blood and subservience.
