Likes: First of all, look at that cover! LOOK AT IT! It’s beautiful! I received an advanced reader’s copy of the novel and the pre-release proofs included were beautiful even in black and white so I can only imagine how breath taking they will be in the final copy of the novel.

I love the beings in this story! Kitsune, Tengu, and a whole host of other supernatural creatures from Japanese lore make an appearance and is a sure fire way to peak my interest. The melding of present day Japan and the feudalist ideology is brilliantly done.

A few years ago I was introduced to the anime Inuyasha. I’m hoping at least some of you know who that is, but Shiro reminded me a lot of him. Emi and Shiro’s romance is subtle but sometimes you need that in a story. I look forward to their relationship growing.

Dislikes: There wasn’t much I didn’t like in this novel. The beginning is a little confusing if you don’t have a basic knowledge of Japanese myths and legends. While the rituals of the past and the current times are beautifully melded, it is a shock to the system when it seems like we are pulled into present times, even though we’ve actually been there all along!

I could rave about this book for days so I’m going to give it five ofuda 😉
