Nell’s Gossip & Book Hunt 3/12/2017
Welcome to One Book Two. I love gossip and what gossip is any better than book or author gossip? Normally, I’m not one to spread rumors, so be sure you listen close the first time.
This Weeks Gossip:
*Top of the list for today’s gossip is the fact that Steve McHugh, author of the Hellequin Chronicles has signed a 3 book deal with 47 North. That means we’ll still get to enjoy Steve’s fantastic writing but it sounds like it’s possible that Nathan is growing more powerful. Maybe in these next three books we’ll see the Hellequin fall away and Nathan become something totally different. I don’t know. All I know is that Scorched Shadows is the last book in the Hellequin Chronicles & the new series is a tie in with Hellequin Chronicles. No release date yet of Scorched Shadows, but when I hear it, I’ll let you know. Oh, and just so you know, Crimes Against Magic has now sold over 100,000 copies. Is that not AWESOME?!!
*We, here at One Book Two, are all a fan of Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series. Nice Guys Bite is a novella featuring Silvio Sanchez, Gin’s assistant. This book will only be released as an ebook and audio book. No “real” printed pages on paper for #15.5.
Title: Nice Guys Bite
Author: Jennifer Estep
Series: Elemental Assassin #15.5
Released: December 12, 2016
Description: The Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series continues with a novella starring Silvio Sanchez, the vampire assistant of Gin Blanco, as he goes on a holiday date that turns out to be more deadly than romantic.
Working for Gin Blanco (aka the Spider, the assassin who runs the Ashland underworld) doesn’t leave much time for romance, especially with Gin’s holiday party planning in full swing. But when he catches the eye of a charming gentleman, Silvio finds himself going out for coffee.
All’s fair in love and war, though. Just as Silvio is starting to enjoy himself, he realizes he’s being watched. His nice guy date doesn’t sense the danger, and Silvio wants to keep it that way (and, well, keep the guy alive) so Silvio ends the date early—only to be abducted by some villainous giants.
Will Silvio survive the night and make it back to the Pork Pit in time for Gin’s holiday party? Only if he decks the hall with bodies…
*Seriously, this is an awesome series. I kept putting off reading it because I knew it would pull me in and I wouldn’t surface until it was finished. I was right. My review of book #1, The Devil’s Mouth, is below Ivana’s on this post.
I finished just in time because Hell Night, Alex Rains, Vampire Hunter #2, will be released March 21, 2017. Woot!
Title: Hell Night
Author: Matt Kincade
Series: Alex Rains, Vampire Hunter #2
To be released: March 21, 2017
Description: ALEX RAINS knows all about hunting vampires—after all, that’s his job, and he’s the best at what he does. But when he follows a lead to the tiny desert town of Prosperity, Nevada, Alex quickly learns that vampires aren’t the only things that go bump in the night. He’s just as surprised as the town’s residents when the dead start walking the streets of Prosperity . . . and they’ve got a bit of an appetite.
Together with a ragtag group of survivors, Alex will have to dodge undead horrors and small-town drama as he digs into Prosperity’s darkest secrets and macabre Wild West heritage to figure out why the dead aren’t staying dead, discover what–or who–is responsible, and put a stop to it . . . before the whole mess gets out of hand.
After dealing with the undead in Prosperity, Alex Rains is going to have to update his resume.
It’s sunny with a chance of apocalypse in HELL NIGHT, Matt Kincade’s eagerly anticipated follow-up to THE DEVIL’S MOUTH. With HELL NIGHT, Kincade once again delivers fast-paced, gritty pulp action, engaging characters, and delightfully grim humor.
Title: In the Shadow of Dragons
Author: Sonya Bateman
Series: Aftermagic #1
Released: March 10, 2017
Description: A Knight who’s losing faith, a doctor who’s losing hope, and a rebel who’s losing the war may be the world’s last chance for survival.
Six years after dragons came to the earth, the magic they left behind has become an insidious infection, gradually turning people into elves, goblins, dwarves, trolls … and worse. A drug called HeMo, produced by the powerful Bishop Corporation, slows this process. But once a year, a worldwide Eclipse and an intense surge of magic puts everyone at risk for Changing completely — with deadly results.
Teague Harlow is a Knight, one of an elite team employed by BiCo to protect the people from themselves. Only the Knights are permitted to use magic, to slay the monsters that used to be people — but not everyone believes in BiCo’s vision of order. The Darkspawn, a small group of magic-using rebels, fight to destroy HeMo and allow magic to take hold naturally. For better or worse.
When Teague is sent to join the Darkspawn as a spy, she begins to realize the conflict isn’t as straightforward as it seems … and BiCo may not be the heroes the world believes. Because HeMo isn’t curing people. It’s changing them.
And what it’s doing could be far worse than infecting them with magic.
