Welcome to another Talking Books with Nell. I’m continuing talking about book genres and then after that will be authors. Any insights into any subject is welcome.
I know I’ve been gone for awhile, but God willing, I am back for good. So…let’s talk books.
Last time we talked about Horror. You now know how much of a scaredy cat I am when it comes to horror. Some I can handle…some not so much. So far in our visits we have covered: Romance, HEA, Urban Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery, Hard Boiled, Thriller and on and on. I can see how a person can get side tracked just trying to figure out the genre to read.
Fantasy covers a broad range of books. You got your: Dark Fantasy, Dragons, Epic Fantasy, Fairy Tales, Fantasy Of Manners, Fiction, Heroic Fantasy, High Fantasy, Low Fantasy, MagicMythology, Paranormal, Supernatural, Unicorns, Urban Fantasy, and Weird Fiction.
Now why Unicorns get their own subgenre, I’m not really sure. I mean if Unicorns and Dragons get their own then what about Shifters and Aliens? Oh, never mind – that’s how I get side-tracked. I could pick and choose which subgenre I like the best but really, I have learned that just because a book is labeled one category or another there is no way a person can really decide unless by trial. Listed is the genres that I use to differentiate my books. Oh, who are we kidding. I just read – I don’t catagorize.
Romance covers: African American Romance, Category Romance, Christian Romance, Clean Romance, Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance, Fantasy Romance, Fiction, Historical Romance, Interracial Romance, Lesbian Romance, M M Romance, Paranormal Romance, Romantic Suspense, Science Fiction Romance, Time Travel Romance, Western Romance
Are you tired yet? Basically, those are all the genres that I salivate over. I know everyone has their favorites and we’ve not even touched on the non-fiction stuff. I used to read biographies and true history, but I haven’t touched on them for quite awhile. There are too many other books vying for my attention.
Now, if I was an author, how would I go about labeling my work? That would be tough because I would be afraid that those that “vote a straight ticket” would miss my book because I put it in the wrong spot. We all know that being an author isn’t all sunshine and unicorns (hee hee- get it? never mind.;) Next time around let’s talk about what it’s like to be an author.

If you’ve read Accession of the Stone Born already and want to experience more of Ken’s writing, check out the following books in the Warden Global series:
Title: The Wanderer Awakens
Author: Ken Lange
Series: Warden Global, Book 01
Publish Date: November 15, 2016
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Cover: Danielle Fine
Publisher’s Description: My name is Viktor Engel Warden, and I’m here to tell you that there’s more to this world than you might suspect.
There are things that slither and pass unseen through the night, and it’s my job to stop them. But sometimes that’s easier said than done. Twenty years ago, I ended a nightmare that would’ve brought the world to its knees. I thought it was over . . . but I was wrong.
The Cult of Fenrir has returned, and they’re stronger than ever. Now I’m in a race to find the survivors of that day so I can stop them again. Permanently. If I get things wrong . . . which I won’t . . . but if I do . . . it might just bring about the apocalypse. But, hey, no pain, no gain, and all that BS. Right? Yeah, I’m not buying it either.
Publisher’s Description: When I crashed on this planet fifteen thousand years ago, I thought that my friend—the living spaceship Sleipnir—was destroyed. But it turns out the mysterious signal I’ve been receiving for the past nine years is his cry for help. It’s led me back to Romania, back to the mountain I almost died on, and—just maybe—back to the legendary being who once saved my life.
Publisher’s Description: For most people, a visit from their former in-laws is unpleasant at most. If only I were that lucky.
Mine have unexpectedly dropped by, leaving a couple of bodies in little bits and a message in blood as their way of saying hi.
Which is just great. Now I can add one more group to the growing list of nut-bags who want to tuck me in for a dirt nap. Simply put, if the in-laws don’t get me, a dead woman, the Loki, or any one of a legion of mythological beasties just might.
To top it off, I’ve learned that there’s a cosmic war that’s been raging since the dawn of creation, and somehow, I’ve found myself at the very center of it all. I know it’s gonna be a hell of a day when death might be the least of my problems.
On a book hunt what do you look for? The cover? The description? I look for the cover, the description and then the price! Love all three in this pick for Delicious Sounding Books!
This book is on sale for “free” right now on Amazon. The cover looks super and the description sounds fab! What puts the frosting on the cake? It’s a trilogy! A series! AND if you work it right, you can get the prequel for free too! (Gotta visit author’s page for that)

Listen up! New Author News right here! Right NOW! Come on in, grab a cup of coffee and read the announcements!
Blue Curse will be in negotiation for an audiobook that could be released as early as January 2018! That is so exciting! I have it straight from the author that Patrick Cronin, Prof Croft‘s voice in his own series, could possibly be the voice of Captain Jason Wolfe! Why is it so exciting? Because this narrator is fab, that’s why. Prof Croft’s narration was on the money. I always look for narrators that add something to the book they are working with instead of just reading it. Patrick Cronin IS Prof Croft in these books. So, with that said, I will be sure to be on the lookout for news announcing the release of the audio.
Here’s the book description for Blue Curse:
ELITE SOLDIER TURNED DRAGON HUNTER
Cursed by a blind witch in a remote corner of Waristan, Special Ops Captain Jason Wolfe finds himself transforming into a creature of local legend, a lupine referred to in fearful whispers as Blue Wolf.
Faster, stronger, and more lethal, he’s the perfect soldier – but not for the U.S. military. To break the curse, Jason must join a war between ancient tribal foes: blue werewolves and the formidable White Dragon.
In a battle spanning from the peaks of Central Asia to the valleys of Manhattan, and with the help of a bookish wizard named Prof Croft, Jason will push himself to the breaking point. Because with the curse now spreading to his mind, he’s running out of time – and the stakes couldn’t be higher:
Win and he returns home to his fiancé, his family, and a future.
Lose and he dies a bloodthirsty beast…
