Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 12/29/2018

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Back with new releases again… they keep writin’ them, we keep readin’ them.

  • Over the holidays, I searched for new authors and new titles.  I know I don’t need any more books, okay? But books are like potato chips…you can’t take just one.

I found an author that I had lost track of several years ago.  It was an introduction to a supernatural thriller from Joseph Nassise.  I stumbled upon him in 2011 and it was one of those writers where the next book in the series was impatiently anticipated.  He is a writer that is scary good with the emphasis on SCARY.  I think normal people (people that aren’t me) call them thrillers.  This is the book that got me hooked.  If I would have been doing this blog back then, I would have probably rated it 5 stars.

Title:  Eyes to See
Author:  Joseph Nassise
Series:  Jeremiah Hunt #1
Release date:  October 11, 2011
Description:  In an urban fantasy that charts daring new territory in the field, Jeremiah Hunt has been broken by a malevolent force that has taken his young daughter and everything else of value in his life: his marriage, his career, his reputation. Desperate to reclaim what he has lost, Hunt finally turns to the supernatural for justice.

Abandoning all hope for a normal life, he enters the world of ghosts and even more dangerous entities from beyond the grave. Sacrificing his normal sight so that he can see the souls of the dead and the powers that stalk his worst nightmares, Hunt embarks upon a strange new career–a pariah among the living; a scourge among the dead; doomed to walk between the light of day and the deepest darkness beyond night.

His love for his departed daughter sustains him when all is most hopeless, but Hunt is cursed by something more evil than he can possibly imagine. As he descends into the maelstrom of his terrifying quest, he discovers that even his deepest fears are but prelude to yet darker deeds by a powerful entity from beyond the grave…that will not let him go until it has used him for its own nefarious purposes.

  • I don’t know what made me check on this author after all these years, but I am excited I did.  You see, he’s got a series that I missed (it was published before Jeremiah Hunt series) and if the cover work doesn’t haul you in, then the description will.  AND if you go to his website, he’ll give you the first book in the series for free.  Seriously? What’s the risk except for the fact I might be stuck on the couch binge reading a new series.

Title:  The Heretic
Author:  Joseph Nassise
Series: Templar Chronicles #1
Released: March 8, 2010
Description:  Boston SWAT officer Cade Williams didn’t believe in the supernatural until a chance meeting with a fallen angel left his wife dead and him hanging on to life by the thinnest of margins. When he was discharged from the hospital he discovered that not only was he scarred, body and soul, but that the encounter had left him with a few otherworldly talents of his own.

Now, several years later, Knight Commander Cade Williams runs the elite Templar combat unit known as the Echo Team, which puts him in the perfect position to search for the creature that so viciously attacked him and his family that night. His efforts yield little success, however, until a cabal of necromancers attempts to seize an ancient Templar artifact for their own nefarious purposes and gives him the first real lead he’s had in ages. Cade sets out to find the necromancers and, through them, the Adversary, only to encounter something much worse…

  • With finding this book, I found right next to it (on the internet everything is right next to everything else in the online shelf) this author and book:

Title: Cursed City
Author: William Massa
Series: Shadow Detective #1
Released: December 11, 2016
Description:  My name is Mike Raven, and the weird and supernatural are my life. Monsters murdered my parents when I was eight. Turns out my folks were paranormal investigators and Hell always settles its debts. Naturally I decided to join the family business.

For two decades I’ve studied the occult and traveled the world hunting nightmares. Vampires. Shifters. Demons. Wraiths. I’ve faced them all. But my greatest challenge still lay ahead…

From the moment Celeste stepped into my office, I knew she was in trouble. Black magic trouble. Her father had promised her soul to a powerful demon on the day she was born. Now, twenty-one years later, the forces of darkness were gathering to collect their long-awaited prize.

Guess who’s about to pick a fight with the Devil himself?
