Devil’s Due by Percival Constantine
Who wants to start a war between Heaven and Hell? Someone does and it’s up to Luther to save the world…again.
Publisher’s Description: Half-human. Half-demon. All attitude.
Luther Cross here. Dangerously handsome, effortlessly stylish half-demon, at your service. As I have inherited certain…abilities with my odd genetics, I’ve put them to use as Chicago’s foremost paranormal investigator.
My current case? Well, I have to admit, it feels a little personal. I’m helping a mysterious girl who’s turned up on my doorstep, pregnant through mystic means. I can’t help but think of my own mother…and if I don’t help her, she’ll face the same fate.
Turns out, someone is trying to create an army of half-demons. While it might be a pleasant change to hang out with my own kind, I know most half-demons don’t have my sense of morality. If I don’t stop this evil plan, the armistice between Heaven and Hell will be broken and all of the Earth will pay… It will be the beginning of the end.
Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words …SPOILERS. *BEWARE*
Nervous Nellie says…
Wow. Talk about an ego the size of the Empire State Building. Yep, that’s Luther Cross. He’s sporting a fast car, sparkly watch, tailored suits all because he can do what others can’t. He’s a paranormal investigator and there are very few that will take on what Luther will. He’s also half demon which is technically called a Cambion. They are outlawed. They should not exist, but Luther does by the Grace of Someone who is connected.
He starts with a case of murder and quickly develops to kidnapping and hostages. Someone is playing God, but he can’t figure out who. Is it the demons? That would be bad. Is it the Angels? That would be worse.
Luther may start out with an ego, but he confirms the reasons he has one because he gets done what no one else will touch. As the book progresses (and I mean quickly – it was a one sit wonder. One day. One read.), the world is in grave danger of a war between heaven and hell that only Luther can stop.
I loved this book. It started out as a egotistic paranormal PI who thinks he’s all that with a cherry on top story to a hold on to your socks and strap in kind of adventure. I will definitely be reading book 2.
