Upcoming Read Along Schedule for White Knight, Black Valentine Series By Kristen Brand
Hello readers! To celebrate the recent release of Kristen Brand’s final installment to her epic superhero series, One Book Two is hosting a read-along that’ll feature every book from start to finish, including the new Superhuman Disaster.
Since the start of my adventures here at One Book Two, I have been a huge fan of superheroes and villains alike. Comics and the new comic cinematic universes really bring out the fangirl in me, so when author Kristen Brand approached me about her first book, Hero Status, I jumped at the chance to read and review it.
I’m happy that I did because these stories, characters, and themes have become a huge part of my favorite go-to reads. There’s so much action, suspense, romance, and humor. I’ve read most of them several times each and can’t wait to read the entire series again now that it has been finished. Will there be a happy ending? Guess I will find out!
Check out the schedule we will be following below, plus descriptions of each book in the series.
Dates: April 1-7, 2019
Title: Hero Status, Book 1
Description: David Del Toro used to be a superhero. Now he’s retired and happily married—to his former nemesis, Valentina Belmonte, better known as the Black Valentine. The two have settled in sunny Miami and left the past behind them. No more masks, capes or handcuffs. At least, not outside of the bedroom.
But then the famous hero Supersonic turns up dead, and Valentina is arrested for the murder. Dave knows she’s innocent, but he has to find the real killer if he wants to prove it. Investigating on his own, dodging the law, he gets tangled in a web of conspiracy that will take more than super-strength to break. If Dave wants to save his wife, he’ll have to cross lines no hero ever should…
Dates: April 8-14, 2019
Title: Villainous, Book 2
Description: Valentina Belmonte isn’t evil anymore—honest. She’s hung up her supervillain costume, retired to Florida with her family, and hasn’t committed a crime in years. (Well, not a felony. What’s a misdemeanor here and there if you don’t get caught?) This time, she’s not the one in trouble with the law—her goody-two-shoes, former superhero of a husband is.
He saved her life two months ago but committed a spectacular amount of assault and property damage along the way. The feds plan to press charges…unless Val does something for them in exchange. Apparently, an old friend of hers is importing a deadly drug that gives people temporary psychic powers. The feds want to send in Val with a wire to get evidence to bring him down. Sounds simple enough, but things turn deadly fast, and Val finds herself up against another supervillain—one who can out-play her at her own game.
Val’s worried she’s gone soft since retirement, but if she doesn’t get the feds the evidence they need, her husband will end up rotting in one of the most hellish prisons in the country…
Dates: April 15-17, 2019
Title: Best Man, Book 2.5
Description: Harris Holt has one job: to make sure his best friend’s wedding goes smoothly. But when his friend is a retired superhero marrying a former villainess, that involves more than just remembering the rings and making a good speech at the reception. Especially when a guy with a gun turns up at the wedding venue.
Now Harris has to keep a supervillain with a grudge from offing the bride and groom—and keep it quiet, or else the cops will crash the ceremony. With his own rusty superpowers and a murderous maid of honor for help, Harris needs to stop the bad guy before the happy couple gets cold feet…on their corpses.
Dates: April 18-24, 2019
Title: Almost Invincible, Book 3
Description: A theme park turns into a death-trap of sadistic supervillains…
White Knight is the most popular superhero in the country—which is bad news for David Del Toro, formerly White Knight, who retired from heroics years ago and just wants some peace and quiet. When the White Knight ride at a superhero-inspired theme park has a grand reopening, Dave is more than happy to give his complimentary tickets to his daughter and her friends and spend the day at home. But then the park gets taken hostage by supervillains.
The man known as Bloodbath spent the last decade in a maximum-security prison and blames White Knight for putting him there. He’s given an ultimatum: the hero comes to face him, or he’ll kill every tourist in the park. Dave barely managed to beat Bloodbath while in his prime and doesn’t like his chances now that he’s old and busted. But unless he does something, every innocent person in the park is going to die…including his daughter.
Dates: April 25- May 1, 2019
Title: Kill Them All, Book 4
Description: They messed with the wrong supervillain.
Valentina Belmonte walked away from her supervillain career years ago. Having peaked at the top of the national Most Wanted List, she now lives a quiet life with her husband and daughter, enjoying the Florida sun. Sure, she has to curb her criminal instincts to stay under the radar, but her family is worth it.
Until they’re attacked. With her husband—a retired superhero and the closest thing she has to a conscience—hospitalized and on the brink of death, she’s done playing nice. She doesn’t know who attacked them or why, but she’ll wreak bloody destruction until she finds out. Nobody does revenge like a supervillain, but as her single-minded pursuit grows more violent, it threatens the only family she has left…
Dates: May 2-8, 2019
Title: Superhuman Disaster, Book 5
Description: A hero awakens.
Retired superhero David Del Toro has just woken from a coma—or at least, that’s what the black-market doctor watching over him in an off-the-grid safehouse says. The doctor can’t tell him what happened, but that’s alright. Dave figures he can just ask his family. Except they’re nowhere to be found, their phone numbers are all disconnected, and when he goes home, he finds a hole the size of an elephant smashed into the front of the house and nothing inside.
A villain returns.
Frantic to find his family, Dave calls on all the contacts he made over his superhero career. He learns that his wife has apparently gone back to being a supervillain, and his former sidekick has become a rogue vigilante. Something rotten is going on in the DSA, the law enforcement agency that handles superhuman crime. What does it have to do with Dave’s family? And with such a late start, still suffering the aftereffects of the coma, does Dave have any hope of stopping it?
An Update from Luna Lovebooks
Greetings fellow fae and blog friends! Kat posted awhile ago about what she was up to and I decided that it would be a good idea to update you on my plans as well! There have been a lot of changes recently for many of the 1B2 members, both good and bad. My wings wilted a little but they are getting stronger each day!
Review Schedule!
Like Kat, I too have been working on getting my review TBR list organized and shortened to make room for more requests. I am trying to alternate between the hard copies and the e-books that have been patiently waiting for my attention. Here are the next ten that I have planned to read. If you are an author and do not see your work listed, please know that I am diligently working on getting to your tale and will read and post a review as soon as I am able.

Read-Along News
Unfortunately I will not be joining in on the current read along. I have too many plates spinning and even though both series are on my personal wish list, my personal TBR pile is starting to look like a certain famous tower and I don’t think my magic will keep it from toppling over. I opted to read a few of those in my spare time instead and get my new faerie dwelling finished (I’ve been here almost two months after all).
But you should definitely check out both series! Whether you join in the read along or not if you love urban fantasy you’ll enjoy these books!
Double-Triple Fae – Urban Fantasy
August 4 – August 10 – The Shadow Reader by Sandy Williams
August 11 – August 17 – The Shattered Dark by Sandy Williams

September 8 – September 13 – A Trace of Moonlight by Allison Pang
Writing News!!!
Like Kat, I also have the writing bug. And also like Kat I have not been able to keep up with it for quite awhile. I have always been more of a pantser when it comes to writing. For those of you not familiar with the term it means I just fly by the seat of my pants and don’t really plan or outline. I plan to use my time to get more organized before I write. I have several half finished and/or barely started projects that need more structure before I can even put pen to paper again. I have three main projects that I really want to focus on, one of them being a fallen angel story. I hope I can get organized and share with you!
PS: This image is one that inspired my fallen angel story. Doesn’t he look like he has a story to tell?
So aside from working my mundane job as well as my faerie one, I have lots of exciting changes going on! I want to give a huge shoutout to our followers and fellow readers and authors! We wouldn’t be doing this without you! So keep reading and commenting!
With love and light,

Kat Mandu’s New Groove
Hello blog friends! You might have noticed it’s been rather quiet on the site lately. Writing News!!!
Writing is another one of the things I haven’t kept up with lately. I hit a bad slump in my personal life in the last month and haven’t really had the motivation to work on my pain YA project. It’s a good news, bad news moment because I’ve had the inspiration to write a couple short stories in the meantime. You can find one of them – Trouble – on WattPad! I’m excited to introduce you to some of the first characters I’ve ever worked with. And if you like urban fantasy with touches of romance and humor, these stories might be for you. Trouble is currently halfway done – and I’ve got plans to bring two more novellas into the mx once it is.
Please feel free to let me know what you think! You can find it here!
In other writing news, I’ve got two other projects I work on.
For one, I’m a D&D dungeon master (Dungeons and Dragons for those of you unfamiliar with the term) and I’ve got a nice, magical (and maniacal) murder mystery that needs a lot of tedious planning and mapping. It’s a lot of work – but it’s also a lot of fun! Are you a D&D player? Tell me some of your experiences. I love hearing fun roleplay stories.
I’m also teaming up with my little brother and together we’re stepping out onto the machinima scene. Machinima is the method of making animated film using software similar to that designed for making video and computer games. For those of you who are gamers and might enjoy this type of filming, here’s a great example of machinima: Rooster Teeth’s Red vs Blue, a web-series based on the Halo games with a comical twist.
Granted, these guys rule the roost, so there’s no way our project will be that awesome. But it’ll be fun to make our own scripts and play around the cinematic effects. I’ll keep you updated on our progress (and give you a link to our YouTube channel) but in the meantime, enjoy a Red vs Blue clip (I’m a huge fan, in case you couldn’t tell).
So as you can see, I’m up to a lot lately. And I’m also working two jobs. But I wanted you guys to know I’m still here, so thanks to those of you who still read and/or follow the blog. I’m grateful for your support! Stay tuned for more upcoming reviews, writing posts, and other book stuff! Read on fellow readers, read on!

Upcoming Read Along With Luna Lovebooks
Hey readers! For two years now I’ve hosted book read-alongs for One Book Two. For those of you new to the concept, a read-along is like a book club! A group of book lovers getting together to read the same series and discuss what we love or hate about it. Since I’ve wrapped up my high fantasy read-along, it’s time to begin another one!
But a girl can’t run all the read-alongs on her own, sometimes she needs some help from fellow book-loving reviewers. And in that case, I’d like to introduce Luna Lovebooks, who is hosting her very first read-along. Join her in the Goodreads group for discussions and other fun stuff!
Hi everyone!

The read-along beings May 15th and should end shortly before Independence day, but of course you can read at your own pace. The entire schedule is as follows:
