Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 12/29/19

Wow, this is the last book hunt of 2019.  I sound like a broken record, but I can’t believe 2019 is over already.  This year was better than the last couple and I hope 2020 is even better.

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Back with new releases again… they keep writin’ them, we keep readin’ them.

  • Jenn Stark is releasing a new book in the Wilde Justice series.  If you are not familiar, this series spotlights Sarah Wilde in her new position on the Arcana Council.  If you aren’t familiar with Sarah Wilde, then you really should start on the Immortal Vegas series where Sarah comes into her own.  Jenn Stark is an excellent writer and her characters are whole and interesting.

Title:  The Wayward Star
Author: Jenn Stark
Series: Wilde Justice #5
Release date: December 30, 2019
Description: Only in darkness can you see the stars…

As the Tarot incarnation of Justice, tracking down the outlaws of the psychic community and delivering them to Judgment is Sara Wilde’s business…and business is good.

Now a rival syndicate known as The Shadow Court seeks to impose their own brand of justice, restricting magic to only the richest and most influential psychics, while stripping power from all the “undesirables” along the way. Their top priority? Hit Sara Wilde, guiding light of psychics everywhere, where it hurts…

Right in the heart.

From the crackling fires of Burning Man to Sara’s even more incendiary high school reunion, the path is never more twisted than when you follow The Wayward Star.

  • The next book I’m spotlighting is another series that I absolutely love.  I’ve even started re-reading them! Teresa Gabelman writes a good vampire romance series called The Protectors.  Of course the Vampires are kick ass and all good guys and gals.

Title:  A Warrior Christmas
Author: Teresa Gabelman
Series:  The Protectors series #14
Release date: December 22, 2019
Description: Jingle bells! Jingle bells! Warriors are on their way. Oh, what fun it is to slay a rogue vampire today. Hey!

To have more Christmas fun dive into A Warrior Christmas to see which mate gets the perfect gift and which Warrior Grinch finds his holiday cheer.

  • I have been following this series for years.  Jess is a vampire that has not turned into a mindless eating machine due to her brother who is a priest.  He works his Devine magic in order to save her from the vampire virus that turns vampires into those that cannot control themselves.  It’s a good story, but like I’ve said in my past reviews there are places in the story that are not cohesive.  I got confused a couple of times.

Title:  Graves of Retribution
Author: Lina Gardiner
Series: City of Bones #3, Jess Vandimere, Vampire Hunter #7
Release date: January 10, 2020
Description: Death Deceives Her

Jess Vandermire and John (Britt) Brittain have been in Paris for three months now, but they aren’t going home yet. There’s a complicated vampire uprising brewing, and everything they’ve encountered in Paris so far has drawn them deeper into the conspiracy. It’s becoming apparent there are more than just vampires in the mix, but Jess still hasn’t figured out exactly what they’re up against…or who their true enemy is.

Jess and Britt will have to work without a net, covering treacherous terrain to root out just what the threat is. The police are no longer trustworthy–even though someone is definitely doing everything in their power to break the current Pact between vampires and humans. But when Jess and Britt finally unearth the truth, they realize that they’re facing their most dangerous enemy yet.

And it’s not at all who they expected . . .

Demon Ensnared by Jenn Stark

The best Demon Enforcer yet.  He risks everything to do his job.  She has been chosen when she was a child.

Title:  Demon Ensnared
Author:  Jenn Stark
Series:  Demon Enforcers #4
Publish Date: November 12, 2019
Publisher’s Description:  You’re always stronger in the broken places…

Angela Stanton has it all—the brilliant mind, the political job that can make a real difference, the townhouse full of strays she attracts wherever she goes. She’s also got a secret that nearly destroyed her when she was a child. A secret she’s buried so deep, it can’t hurt anyone anymore.

Until now.

Gregori of the Syx, a gifted empath, has avoided all human emotion since he became a demon. Now he must convince Angela to trust him with her deepest pain, revealing a truth that could change the role of demons on earth forever. Unfortunately, the intensity of this particular human connection might also shatter what’s left of his soul. But this time, he won’t turn away.

Falling in love can utterly end you when you’re a Demon Ensnared.

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words …SPOILERS. *BEWARE*

Nervous Nellie says…

I loved this book.  I enjoyed the three books before this one, but this one was very powerful.  This demon enforcer is an empath and he endures a LOT of pain for God’s children. I think he is the one demon enforcer that has been punished the most for his sins.

I would have to suggest that you have at least become familiar with the Immortal Vegas series or the Wilde Justice series.  The reason for this is that there are cameos of the members of the Arcana council.  They have involved themselves in the destiny of humanity.

There is blood and gore, naive politicians and a bit of sex.  The premise is pretty simple but it’s not obvious.  It doesn’t become obvious until around 3/4 of the story, however, I didn’t even notice how many pages flew by until the story was building for the end.  I read it all in one day and again, I feel it was the best Demon Enforcer yet.  I give it a 5.

Our reviews in this series…

I received an ARC or review copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.

Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 9/29/19

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Back with new releases again… they keep writin’ them, we keep readin’ them.

Hey, all.  Got a book done this week, so I’m feeling good about that.  There are some really good releases coming up which I’m excited about.

  • I think this series is a super series…super but *deep breath* a roller coaster ride.  Ms. Bateman really knows how to capture an audience.

Title: Dark of the Moon
Author: Sonja Bateman
Series: The DeathSpeaker Codex #9
Release date: September 23, 2019
Description: On the bright side, if this didn’t work, I’d be too dead to worry about forgiveness.

Heartbroken and furious on the heels of a devastating loss, Gideon Black heads to the Fae realm of Arcadia, reluctantly bringing along a pair of old friends who’ve sworn to help him even after he insists that he’s going alone. Because what he’s planning to do there has a high risk of deadly failure.

His self-appointed mission: to face down a god, and to restore a life that was stolen from him.

To bring someone back from the dead.

But nothing is simple when it comes to the gods of the Fae. The DeathSpeaker soon finds himself battling his way across the realm in search of the ancient keys, lost to the ravages of time, that will enable him to enter eternity and come back alive.

And through it all, the greatest challenge lies in what should be the simplest task: convincing the object of his quest that he’s worth saving.

  • Speaking about capturing an audience.  Jenn Stark is the QUEEN!  I love her Sara Wilde books and now her spin off series, Wilde Justice explores the exploits of the Arcane Council.

Title:  The Shadow CourtAuthor: Jenn Stark
Series: Wilde Justice #4
Release date: September 30, 2019
Description: Don’t you forget about me…

She’s a Tarot-reading artifact hunter finally willing to own her supernatural abilities. He’s the all-powerful Magician of the Arcana Council who once loved her…but now doesn’t remember her, the result of a battle to defeat a terrifying enemy.

Isolated and alone, Sara must race time to help the Magician uncover his ancient knowledge, but can she live with what she finds? Will his dark past destroy them both?

Worse, a rival council, known only as the Shadow Court, has emerged to wage battle against the Arcana Council. And if Sara can’t help the Magician recall how to combat this insidious, mind-bending threat, the world will descend into devastating war.

Love could be your last, best weapon when you confront The Shadow Court.

  • This type of book is not the kind I usually submit for review, but I stumbled onto this series and it looks delicious.  The next book is being released tomorrow, so it gives no time to read #1 or #2.  I read the descriptions and it looks like each book is sort of standalone so…I think this release might call for reading out of order.  It looks too good to pass up.  Besides, I might be on the track of something new to me and exciting!

Title:  Dark Ambitions
Author: Irene Hannon
Series: Code of Honor #3
