Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 9/2/18

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

This awesome new book released August 29, 2018, and I’m deep into it already.  I love this series.

Title:  Demon Forsaken
Author: Jenn Stark
Series: Demon Enforcers #2
Released: August 29, 2018

Description:  A Sin so great it cannot stand…

It’s not easy being the wittiest, sexiest, most devilishly handsome member of his elite team of Demon Enforcers, but Finn of the Syx has worked it his entire existence. The existence he can remember, anyway. While his fellow demons can recall their lives as Fallen angels–and the sins that got them condemned–Finn’s memory is a blank slate.

Which means his Sin was so horrible, not even the mind of a demon can handle it. Outstanding.

Now Finn is given his last chance for redemption: twenty-four hours to find an encrypted list of mortals marked for death. Unfortunately, the only person who can help him is Dana Griffin–the gritty, passionate, fiercely independent security expert who’s far more than she thinks she is, and definitely more than Finn deserves. Not to mention she’s being hunted by the worst of his kind.

Finn knows Dana is the key to his future and his past, but she’ll also be a dead woman if he can’t remember how to save them both before the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve. No pressure, though.

The life you’ve lost is all that can save you when you’re a Demon Forsaken.

Yeah, I’m in the middle of this one too.  There are so many blockbusters this fall!

Title: Storm of the Gods
Author: Amy Braun
Series: Arios Brothers #1
Released: August 28, 2018

Description:  Thirty years ago, the gods of Greek legend returned to the world. Their return restored their powers, which had been spent in a cataclysmic battle with the Titans. With the ancient deities imprisoned in Tartarus, the Olympians now reside in Néo Vasíleio, formerly known as California.

Twenty-four-year-old Derek Aerios is a war scion, a descendant of Ares, the God of War. He and his brother, eighteen-year-old Liam, capture mythological creatures and rogue scions as part of Ares’s elite military force. As he struggles to cope with his violent powers and the scars of a traumatic childhood, Derek tries to keep the two vows he has made: protect his brother, and never kill a human again.

But when Ares forces him to hunt and kill four rogue scions under Athena’s control—by threatening Liam’s life—Derek chooses to go after the scions in order to save his brother and keep his promise to himself.

Yet the closer Derek gets to the scions, the more he realizes that his orders are part of a deeper conspiracy that put him at odds with his mission and his conscience. Athena may not be the enemy, a traitor could be in their midst, and the Titans could be closer to freedom than ever before.

Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 4/29/18

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Big news, people!! Here’s an author that One Book Two has supported with reading and reviews of her books.  Who is that? Kristi Charish!!  We haven’t heard from her in awhile, but that’s because she’s holed up in her writing cave creating new and exciting adventures for us all.

Releasing on May 7, 2018 is the next in Owl’s adventure.

Title:  Owl and the Tiger Thieves
Author: Kristi Charish
Series: Adventures of Owl #4
Release: May 7, 2018
Publisher’s Description:  In this fourth Owl novel, Kristi Charish (The Voodoo Killings) melds sparkling fantasy with the grit of urban underbelly—with a detour through the world’s most spectacular cities. This is perfect for fans of Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Jennifer Estep, Jenn Bennett, and fantasy lovers everywhere.

Through no fault of her own, Alix has found herself essential to the fate of the world as we know it. She didn’t mean for this to happen—she was quite happy being merely the notorious antiquities thief, and ex-archeologist, known as Owl.

However, years ago, Owl reluctantly entered the secret world of the supernatural. Her goals: complete one job, escape one bounty on her head, continue her thieving in peace.

Fast forward to today. Now, she has become a key player in a brutal paranormal civil war that is rapidly getting out of hand. The leader of one of these factions—a lethal opponent called the Electric Samurai—grows more powerful by the second. To stop him, Owl sets out to find the long-lost, legendary group known as the Tiger Thieves.

But will it be too little too late? One thing Owl misses about “normal” archaeology: there are few emergencies with thousand-year-old relics.

This next book may need me to go back and re-read the first in the series to remember where it left off.  The VooDoo Killings was released in 2016 here in USA featuring star Kincaid Strange. Kincaid’s next adventure will be released in January of 2019, so I have a bit to prepare.  I am definitely looking forward to it!

Title:  The Lipstick VooDoo
Author: Kristi Charish
Series: Kincaid Strange #2
Release: January 9, 2019
Publisher’s Description: Kincaid Strange cannot catch a break. After dealing with a spate of paranormal murders, there’s barely time to recuperate–let alone sleep in–before there’s a new problem in Kincaid’s world of paranormal activity. When her roommate, Nathan Cade–the ghost of a grunge-rocker with a pathological lack of self-control–comes home bound to a dead body, it’s up to Kincaid to figure out how to free him. Ideally before her new mentor, Gideon, a powerful sorcerer’s ghost, discovers that Nate is trapped in the body he’d coveted for himself.

I really don’t want to talk about this because I’m sure if I don’t talk about it the end of the series really won’t happen, right? Yeah, you heard me right.  It’s the end.  I thought that depression was imminent UNTIL I talked with Author Stark.  She told me she will be releasing a new series in September-ish 2018 called Wilde Justice.

Here’s what she had to say:

Sara will not be shutting up any time soon–in the fall I’ll be launching a new series with her and most of the gang. It’ll be a tiny bit different in that my goal with the new series is to have them be standalone adventures vs. so deeply tied together that there was no way you could start in the middle of the series, and her focus will be different as a result of what happens in Wilde Fire… but this isn’t so much the end as a new beginning! :D~Jenn Stark

Title:  Wilde Fire
Author: Jenn Stark
Series: Immortal Vegas #10
Released: April 18, 2018
Publisher’s Description: It’s the end of the world as we know it…

The war on magic is here, and Mistress of the House of Swords Sara Wilde has done everything she can to prepare. The Arcana Council has recalled its most powerful members to hold the line, and the Houses of Magic are frantically strengthening their defenses. Then the first volley hits: a plague of demons freed to ravage the earth. Scrambling, Sara discovers that the war will be fought not on one front, but three–while new threats emerge at a breakneck pace.

All the magic in the world may not be enough to save it.

From an ancient coven in Chicago to the sunbaked streets of Vegas to the frozen ice fields of Antarctica, Sara rallies her closest friends and fiercest enemies to protect the earth from the gods and monsters raining down from the dark side of the veil. To succeed, Sara must confront the truths she’s been avoiding her whole life, and take on forces that have kept the Connecteds powerless for far too long. But is she willing to make the ultimate sacrifice?

When it comes to Armageddon, where there’s smoke there’s always Wilde Fire.

Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 3/25/18

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Whew! It’s been a week! All sorts of news piled on my desk this week.  I have new releases to tell you about and a cover reveal and even updates on a series I love.  I should get right to it then.

Okay, first out of the chute today is Adam J. Wright.  You will have known him from the Harbinger, P.I. series.  If you don’t, you should go look him up.  His books are in print and audio.

  1.  Lost Soul
  2. Buried Memory
  3. Dark Magic
  4. Dead Ground

What I’m here to tell you about is the new release of Harbinger, P.I. #5!  Here are the deets:

Title:  Shadow Land
Author:  Adam J.Wright
SeriesHarbinger, P.I. book #5
Released: March 12, 2018
Publisher’s Description: When a child goes missing, his mother asks me to help. After all, she believes he was taken by a monster and that’s my field of expertise. The search leads to the storm drains of Dearmont; not a good place to be when you’ve seen as many horror movies as I have.

Turns out the monstrous kidnapper is also responsible for the mysterious disappearance of a patient from a psychiatric hospital nearby. And as I investigate further, I’m pushed into the waiting arms of an old nemesis.

Missing children, fishy creatures, and icy curses are all in a day’s work for Harbinger P.I. But when Mister Scary shows up, the hardest job is staying alive.

New release for Jenn Stark!! It looks like it’s the last in the Immortal Vegas series, which I’m sad about.  This series is a rockin’ ride.  The last book is called Wilde Fire.  The characters are ones that a person cannot put away after finishing the story.  Here’s the new release info:

Title:Wilde Fire

Now, folks, if that looks like fun listen to this:

While Wilde Fire marks the close of the first cycle of Wilde books, I plan to launch another series of books with many of the same characters in Fall, 2018 ~ Jenn Stark

Ok, now I’m really excited that Jenn Stark is starting a new series in the fall, HOWEVER, on May 15, 2018, she’s releasing another new series that I’m already standing in line waiting for at my book store.

I mean, look at that!! 6 books guaranteed in the series.  That is outstanding.  I only have details on the first book, Demon Unbound, but seriously, I would think that if Jenn Stark gave us deets on the whole series, our brains would probably explode.

Title: Demon Unbound
Author: Jenn Stark
Series: Demon Enforcers, Book 1
Release date:  May 18, 2018
Publisher’s Description:  None of us is without Sin…

After serving untold millennia as the leader of a demon special ops team with a brutal reputation for efficiency, Warrick of the Syx has seen it all, done it all, killed it all. Penance for his own damnation? Sure. But with the world running black with blood and magic, his skills are definitely in high demand.

This time, though…there’s a catch. And her name is Maria Santos. Beautiful, badass, and out for blood, Maria’s wrestling with her own dark secrets. The kind of secrets that call to Warrick’s twisted soul. A call he knows better than to answer.

Unfortunately, the dangerously tempting undercover cop is Warrick’s only ticket into the lockdown hellhole where a particularly vicious demon faction is boiling over, ready to unleash a new Armageddon on earth. If he wants to get at them, he’s going to have to take Maria with him.

But the second she gets caught in the crossfire between Warrick and the scum of eternity, well…

Hell hath no fury like a Demon Unbound.

James A. Hunter has created a new series that takes place in Yancy Lazarus time.  I am looking forward to checking it out.

Title: Two Faced
Author: James A. Hunter
Series: Legend of the Treesinger #1
Released: March 22, 2018
Publisher’s Description:  Ancient Demons. A Terrible Curse. Only one woman can save the day … though she’s not really a woman at all.

Winona Treesinger is a Bigfoot—and no, she doesn’t just have large feet. She’s literally an eight-foot tall walking myth, and the last great princess of the People of the Forest.

All she and her people want is to dwell in the deep places of the forest, well away from mankind and the destruction they bring to the land and the world. But when Winona hears about a string of grisly murders in the nearby city of Missoula, she knows in her gut it’s the work of an ancient evil, driven away from their lands long ago.

Against the wishes of her Father, Chief Chankoowashtay, Winona must leave the forest and venture into the world of men, disguised as a frail human, in order to set the balance straight and stop the killings. And with the help of a handsome, slick-talking city detective named Chris Fuller, she might be able to do it. But if Chris finds out what she really is, stopping the creature might be the least of her worries.

Wilde Child by Jenn Stark

Take a Wilde ride with a Wilde woman in her Wilde world.  Sara Wilde, more than what anyone anticipated.

I received an ARC or review copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.

TitleWilde Child
AuthorJenn Stark
SeriesImmortal Vegas #7
Publish Date:  May 17, 2017
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Source: From the Author

Publisher’s Description:

Come away, O human child…

No matter the job, no matter the client, Tarot-reading magical artifacts hunter Sara Wilde has only one hard-and-fast rule: protect the children. But the newest strain of technoceutical drugs–specifically designed to alter psychic children’s DNA–has thrown the arcane black market into a frenzy. As mistress of the House of Swords, Sara pits the power of her worldwide criminal syndicate against insidious enemies and even more treacherous allies to combat the threat, but it’s not enough. To destroy these drugs at their source, she must break her cardinal vow and put a child at risk.

Guided by a boy altered by technoceuticals, Sara races to derail the modernization of an ancient ritual devoted to a malevolent god. Except the children aren’t her only responsibility any longer. The Magician of the Arcana Council and her own House demand her focus as the war on magic erupts violently in several hot spots around the globe. Sara’s pretty sure things can’t get more complicated, until she discovers who is leading one of the other four fabled mortal Houses of Magic…a discovery that brings her face-to-face with the mother she’s never known.

Family skeletons just won’t stop dancing when you’re a Wilde Child.

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words…spoilers.  *BEWARE*

Nervous Nellie says…

This is an urban fantasy about a woman who is trying to protect the gifted magic children of the world from organ traffickers.  They can make drugs out of their heart that will alter regular joe people to the magically enhanced.  There is some violence; guns, swords, magic and the heroine gets hurt a LOT.  But don’t let that put a damper on the story because she can heal at an accelerated rate.  That’s not all!  She’s in love with the Magician of the Arcane Council but won’t acknowledge it out loud.  She’s also an artifact thief.  She steals the artifacts before the bad people get them to create more mayhem.  Can it get any better?

I love this series.  Absolutely LOVE it.  Author Stark makes this world come alive and I feel like I’m one of Sara’s trusted few that are sitting right next to her and trying my best to protect her and help her save the Connected children of the world.  Don’t worry if you don’t like romance as the main story line because the story of Sara/Magician is not a huge focus.  It’s more of a “Oh, by the way…”.  Like I said, Sara is dedicated to trying to eradicate the black market for children.  I could go into all sorts of detail, but it’d be better to read the story.

I would suggest that the series be read in order.  It builds the world and the circumstances around how Sara gets to where she is in her life.  IMO, that’s very important part of the series.  She is on a journey that is simply not as easy as saving children – not that it easy by any means.  A LOT of characters are recurring so that makes the ride more fun because I got to watch them evolve right along with Sara.  Once a person is encompassed in Sara’s world, they’d better hold on for a Wilde ride.

The story is a ride that only Sara Wilde can ride.  No one else can do what she does and that’s because of who she is.  I especially like Sara because she’s not Superman.  She doesn’t have all of her power figured out and she doesn’t know what will happen next.  Everything is totally off script for her and her friends.  She takes risks, she pays for them dearly, but the risks are worth it to her.

Forever Wilde by Jenn Stark

Immortal Vegas has quickly become one of Ivana and Nell’s favorite urban fantasy series. It has it all—magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, drama, and awesome characters. I really don’t know how you could ask for more.

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Publisher’s DescriptionLife has never been smoother for Tarot-reading artifact hunter Sara Wilde. With a worldwide criminal organization at her beck and call, she can finally secure the safety of the youngest and most vulnerable members of the psychic community. Sure, she’s been banged up a little, and the Magician’s most recent attempts to heal her turned her temporarily immortal. But otherwise…things are coming up roses.

Then Sara discovers an enclave of psychic children whose DNA has been dangerously altered, making them the hottest targets on the planet for traffickers. A new strain of technoceutical drugs is flooding the arcane black market, and powerful Connecteds, the Arcana Council, and even Interpol are intent on discovering its source. To protect the children and her House, Sara joins the hunt. What she discovers, however, causes her to question everything she knows about the war on magic and her own deeply-buried motivations.

Still reeling from those revelations, Sara reluctantly partners with the Magician to find and retrieve the most elusive member of the Council, the Hanged Man. Working together far too closely for comfort, Sara learns a series of startling truths about the mercurial, exasperating, and manipulative Magician–including one secret that could finally give her the answers she most craves…if it doesn’t destroy her first.

The hits just keep on coming when you’re Forever Wilde.

Possible spoilers beyond this point.

Invested Ivana says…

So, my review is about a week late, but for good reason.  Forever Wilde is the sixth Immortal Vegas book, and even though they’ve all come out within a year and a half of each other, I still wanted to reread the series. So, I read all six and a half books for this review and loved every minute of it. 😉 Immortal Vegas is so much fun!

Sara continues her crusade to protect the Connected children of the world. Now she’s on the hunt for the manufacturers of “technoceuticals,” drugs that use a combination of technology and magic to enhance a person’s psychic gifts, possibly by altering their DNA. Unfortunately, it seems that the creators of the drugs may have had some help from a member of the Council, The Hanged Man, who has been absent from the Council for years.

badge5v5I’m not going to lie — at the end of Aces Wilde, I thought maybe Nikki would end up being the Hanged Man. If you read an interpretation of the Hanged Man card, it talks about upending the old order, doing an about-face, living in the moment, accepting what is, looking at something from a new perspective—all things that could relate to Nikki’s experience as a transgender female and her current personality, both. Though the Hanged Man turned out to be someone different, the reveal certainly WASN’T disappointing. In fact, I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

Nervous Nellie says…Nervous_Nellie_100

Holy crap on a cracker.  Or maybe I should say something like Nikki would say regarding biblical people on bicycles. Seriously.  This series keeps getting better.  Ivana speaks of upending the old order and I have to tell you that this story totally upended me.

I hadn’t talked to Ivana much about this series, so I’m relieved that it wasn’t only me that suspected Nikki was the Hanged Man.  I could practically taste the victory behind my guess.  I was wrong.  Wow, though, the idea of who actually is the Hanged Man? Brilliant.  The story that Author Stark brought me had me totally at her mercy.

I know you are waiting for me to spill about Armaeus and Sara’s relationship.  Firstly, don’t think anything is resolved  their relationship. Nope. Not at all. Her position in relation to the Council? Huh-uh. What good is the book if nothing is revealed, you ask? Well, I’ve learned quite a little about our arrogant and emotionally vacant Armaeus. Some pretty interesting stuff too.  You will have to read the book for yourself for that info.  I learned who the Hanged Man is and what that’s all about.  I learned about more problems Sara has to work through regarding well…pretty much everything.  Connected children, check.  House of Swords business, check. Possible knowledge about her parentage? Check. Brody & Dixie? check and check. Yep, Sara has got a lot on her plate besides Armaeus and the Council, that is for sure.  I will say no more.

badge5v5If you haven’t read this series, please pick it up.  The writing is amazing and the stories are absolutely enthralling.  The author does her homework and the story flows along so well that I never give a second thought about the wheres and wherefores to any of it.  Author Stark weaves a tale that I can see very clearly in my head.  The characters are multi dimensional and singular. They have distinct personalities and agendas. The imagery that is painted with words shows me so much about the scenes that I don’t even notice I’m reading.  I just see the pictures. The story is complete and very well thought out.  Jenn Stark makes writing look easy – that’s how good she is.

It’s hard to decide which awesome urban fantasies to recommend, as there are so many excellent ones. I’d suggest checking out Ivana’s list of favorite UF series on her About page.
