Publisher’s Description: Quincy Harker is back!

The Quest for Glory continues as Quincy Harker travels to Charleston looking for a missing Archangel and becomes embroiled in local magical turf wars and potentially murderous politics. Things really heat up when an evil wizard tries to burn the city to the ground, with Harker at ground zero in the conflagration!

Glory gave up her wings to save the world, now Harker and the Shadow Council are working to get them back. To do that, they have to locate eight AWOL Archangels and convince them to go back to work. But not all these angels want to get back to the business of Heaven, and not all of them even remember who they are.

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words …SPOILERS. *BEWARE*

Nervous Nellie says…

This is part of a series of the Shadow Council files.  Right now the council’s primary goals is to get archangels to all come together to find God and get him back into his throne.

It seems like the archangels are kind of jerks and really don’t care to help.  Quincy has to convince his charge to return, but in the mean time the Charlston coven has a proposition for Quincy.  To kill a necromancer.  Quincy really doesn’t appreciate being used as an assassin, so he investigates.

Short story, quick case.  Nice little read.

Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt Draft 1/5/20

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Back with new releases again… they keep writin’ them, we keep readin’ them.

Happy New Year and welcome!  As of March 2020, One Book Two will be 5 years old!! Woot Woot!!  Granted, there are less reviewers than there used to be, but oh, well.  I like to read and I love to share new books.  So… lets get on it!

  • This new release is from John G. Hartness.  Author Hartness is famous for his Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter series.  I’ve read plenty of his books and Quincy takes damage and always gets up to get on with the job.  Book #6 was released and here are the deets:

Title:  Inflection Point

A shadowy government agency is torturing cryptids in his city.

Quincy Harker really wishes he’d just stayed in Memphis.

But he didn’t. He came home, to find out that a secret government agency has gone rogue and kidnapped Luke, along with literally dozens of other cryptids, faeries, lycanthropes, and monsters. Now Harker and his crew have to rescue Luke and take down a massive government conspiracy while keeping escaped monsters from destroying Charlotte!

Heaven Help Us by John G. Hartness

He’s the immortal magic-wielding child of Jonathan Harker and Mina Murray from the classic novel Dracula. But to him it’s not a story, it’s family history. Quincy Harker is what you’d get if Constantine were renewed by HBO and taken to the darkest of dark sides. When things go bump in the night, he bumps right back.

TitleHeaven Help Us
Author: John G. Hartness
Series: Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter
Publish Date: October 18, 2016
Genre:  Urban Fantasy/Horror
Source:  Purchased by reviewer

Publisher’s Description: On the run and reeling from his bloody battle with the demon Orobas, all Harker wants to do is lie low in Lockton, Ohio for a few months and let his physical and spiritual wounds heal. But there are werewolves in the diner, and magically-talented teenagers disappearing all over town. Now Harker’s hip-deep in demons again, but this time he’s got no backup.

Meanwhile. Detective Rebecca Gayle Flynn and the rest of Harker’s team are back home in Charlotte, NC, trying to prove his innocence and figure out Orobas’ next move. But no one knows how corrupt Homeland Security or the police department are, or how high the scandal runs. And now some guy shows up claiming to be the great-great-grandson of Doctor Watson (yeah, that Dr. Watson) offering to help?

Will Harker survive a battle with Hell in a small town all on his own?

Can Flynn and Uncle Luke find the proof they need to bring Harker home?

Will they stop Orobas’ master plan before he unleashes Hell on Earth?

Who is this mysterious Shadow Council, and what do they want?

When all else fails on Earth, will Heaven Help Us?

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words…spoilers.  *BEWARE*

Nervous Nellie says…

I’ve made a lot of bad decisions in my life. Some of them have gotten good people hurt, even killed. Many of them have caused immense property damage, and one was responsible for the extinction of an entire species of South American monkey.

Warning to all that I never guessed who was the bad guy this time around. Serious betrayal to Becks and Quincy. The story is just warming up, so jump on the roller coaster – it’ll be a bumpy ride.

Something hinky is going on and even Dracula is losing his composure.  He’s lost his house and his friend.  Homeland Security is after Quincy Harker and Rebecca Flynn is trying to get him out of the hip deep trouble he’s in.   *SPOILER*  Quincy (I’m stunned) takes his relationship to Becks the next step which is totally uncharacteristic for the tough 100 year old plus cantankerous hero.  The trip to the small town in hiding doesn’t last for long and Quincy ends up making friends with the wolves.  We get to meet Jo Henry, the main character in Calling All Angels and she is a force to be reckoned with that makes me glad she’s on the human’s side.  She’s also practically polar opposite of Quincy.  A mom.  Does not cuss.  Is not supernaturally powerful.  She rocks.*END SPOILER*

I am a fan of this series and I’ll keep reading as long as John G. Hartness keeps rolling them out.

Heaven Sent by John G. Hartness

Glory the Guardian Angel meets John Abraham Quincy Holmwood Harker, Demon Hunter.  What happens when an angel hangs with Quincy? Corruption. That’s what.

heaven-sentTitleHeaven Sent
AuthorJohn G. Hartness
SeriesQuincy Harker, Demon Hunter
Publish Date:  July 29, 2016
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Source: purchased by reviewer

Publisher’s Description:  It’s the summer of 2009, and Harker has a brand-new guardian angel. Her name is Glory, and she’s here to try to keep Harker from getting himself killed. Try is the operative word. Because not even a divine guardian with a Joss Whedon fetish can get Harker through this mystery unscathed.

Someone is murdering Nephilim, the rare offspring of human and angel, and using their blood for a terrible ritual. Harker, with some help from his Uncle Luke (you probably just call him Count Dracula), has to find out who the next victim is, who the murderer is, and what the plan is. All in three days. Because no matter what kind of help Heaven Sent, it might not be enough to prevent someone from raising a lot of Hell. Heaven Sent is a prequel novella, with far-reaching effects that will change Harker forever.

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel (or, in other words, SPOILERS).

Nervous_Nellie_100Nervous Nellie says…

This is an urban fantasy that takes place 7 years before the prior books in this series.  There is no sex, plenty of violence, a fresher faced Quincy but no less restrained.  Uncle Luke makes an appearance to help with research and Quincy meets his guardian angel, Glory.  The story isn’t a cliffhanger, but it does continue with the next book Heaven’s Door.  Be sure you have it with you because you will want to pick it up as soon as you finish with #5.

Quincy is learning that he doesn’t know everything when it comes to angels and demons.  He is not as kick ass or nearly as jaded as he is in current time, but he is still Quincy.  I enjoyed the mystery and the introduction to Glory.  The book description does tell you that the half human/half angels are being killed for a ritual, so no spoiler there.  The mystery is the who and the why.  Also, if you read carefully, you’ll badge4v4catch the story arc that continues in the next book.  Usually Quincy’s books are wrapped up in one sitting, but this story obviously takes a little longer.

I got to go to Mort’s again and visit with Christy.  I got to learn a little more about that world I also learned that Quincy is fighting creatures that are seriously above his pay grade.  Seriously, if Uncle Luke (Count Dracula) is worried about Quincy’s well being, there is something worth worrying about!
