Circle of the Moon by Faith Hunter
Another fantastic trip into the life of Nell Ingram and the PsyLED team. They have to solve a mystery with the vampires. Can Nell handle the maggoty feeling long enough?
Title: Circle of the Moon
Author: Faith Hunter
Series: Soulwood #4
Publish Date: February 26, 2019
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Publisher’s Description: Nell can draw magic from the land around her, and lately she’s been using it to help the Psy-Law Enforcement Division, which solves paranormal crimes. Then more animals turn up dead, and team rushes to investigate. A blood-witch is out to kill. But when it seems as if their leader is involved in the crime, the bonds that hold the team together could shatter at any moment.
Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words …SPOILERS. *BEWARE*
Nervous Nellie says…
This was again a fabulous addition to the Soulwood series. Nell is coming into her own after having a rough few years. She is a strong protagonist and I love how she can manipulate people by using the “church lady” persona. I like Nell because she has a lot of common sense and she uses it. She’s relatable. Her magic is of the land and grows like the land would grow.
This book developed more of the PsyLed connections than anything. Occum has moved up in her estimation and I delved into Ricky Bo’s past a little more. I have to admit that I do feel sorry for the guy even though he broke Jane Yellowrock’s heart. The story also involved some of Jane Yellowrock and alluded to things going on in her world. Things that will be coming up, I’m sure.
I loved this series as soon as I started reading them. Nell is a character that has flaws. She loves with her whole heart but she also has a pretty hot temper. I know I wouldn’t want to do wrong by her! This is a total 5 star book.
Oh, and my favorite part of the book is Nell taking tea with Ming of Glass. That was Awesome!!

Nell’s Gossip and Book Hunt 1/20/19
Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip. Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.
I got gossip!! You know I’m not one to go around spreading rumors. I’m really not the gossipy kind. I’m not one to repeat gossip, so you’d better listen close the first time!
- Sherrilyn Kenyon. You know her, right? She’s the famous author of the Dark Hunters novels and Dream Hunter and Were Hunter among others..
I have read her books, but I’ve not reviewed him here because they are more of a private guilty pleasure of mine. Anyway, did you hear that she is going through her own nightmare that is so scary that it would make an excellent novel but worse in real life.
Her husband and his assistant have been spending the last few years POISONING her! Can you believe it!
Quote from NBC news:
A best-selling author known for the “Dark-Hunter” fantasy novel series is claiming in a lawsuit that her husband, who has filed for divorce, and his assistant worked to sabotage her business and poison her over a period of years.
Sherrilyn Kenyon filed the lawsuit against her husband, Lawrence Kenyon, and two others on Jan. 7 in Circuit Court of Williamson County, Tennessee. It seeks damages not in excess of $20 million, according to the lawsuit.
Crazy, greedy people.
- Next up is some gossip on the Jim Butcher front. I read his short Dresden story on Christmas Eve. A little treat for us fans. Find it here:
Title: Christmas Eve
Author: Jim Butcher
Series: The Dresden Files
Release date: December 24, 2018
So, we’ve been wondering about Peace Talks. Harry’s #16th adventure novel. Well, here’s the skinny: we all have crap happen to us. I was out with a broken leg that took forever to get over and then my husband’s cancer was diagnosed. Life tends to wring the very life out of a person, am I right? Well, Author Butcher had a lot of crap that happened to him. It’s no wonder that his next book, Peace Talks #16 in The Dresden Files series, is so far only written to chapter #36. It’s possible it won’t be ready for a couple of years, but that’s just a rumor. You have to admit that Jim Butcher writes awesome books and they are worth the wait. Here’s what has been said about what’s been going on in Jim Butcher’s world.
- Next on the list, which is really more a release news than gossip, is that Circle of the Moon by Faith Hunter will drop on February 26, 2019. After the ending of the last book, Flame in the Dark, I wasn’t sure Nell was going to come back for awhile. She had it pretty rough in that book. Check out the review here.

Flame in the Dark by Faith Hunter
In the third installment of the Soulwood series, Nell Ingram continues to build a life outside of God’s Cloud of Glory church, master her powers with the Earth, and expand her role as a PsyLED agent.
Title: Flame in the Dark

Publisher’s Description: Set in the same world as Faith Hunter’s New York Times bestselling Jane Yellowrock novels, the third, thrilling Soulwood novel stars Nell Ingram, who draws her powers from deep within the earth.
Nell Ingram has always known she was different. Since she was a child, she’s been able to feel and channel ancient powers from deep within the earth. When she met Jane Yellowrock, her entire life changed, and she was recruited into PsyLED—the Homeland Security division that polices paranormals. Possible spoilers beyond this point.
Invested Ivana says…
Like all the Faith Hunter books I’ve read, I enjoyed Flame in the Dark very much. I like seeing the characters develop and learn more about the magic and creatures in their world. Khristine Hvam does a wonderful job of voicing the characters.
Flame introduces us to a new magical creature thought long extinct, sheds a little more light on the history of creatures like Soul, and furthers Nell’s relationships with the team and with her sister, Mud. I’m really looking forward to Mud becoming a bigger part of the story. She is a pistol!
Before listening to Flame, I listened to the whole series again, including “Off The Grid,” the Jane Yellowrock short story that introduces Nell. This is a series I’ll come back to often. 5 stars.
Nervous Nellie says…
I cannot praise Faith Hunter enough. First, she got me hooked on Jane Yellowrock, and then, as Jane’s world expanded, Faith brought in Nell Ingram. This is an action-packed adventure with plenty of story and character advancement. There is no sex, no swear words, a little graphic violence, and best of all, no cliffhanger. I thought there would be, but Faith Hunter saved me from wallowing in cliffhanger self-pity.
The story was great. I don’t mean on the low side of 5 great. I mean as high on the high side of 5 as the meter will go. There were monsters. You think there maybe aren’t monsters at first, but you know better since PsyLED is involved. These are monsters that give me that feeling like the movie Jaws did to the ocean. If you listen closely, you can figure out where the monsters are coming from, but the “why” that is answered in the end is just plain dark! It was GREAT!!!
The other part of the book was fun too. Not just a little bit, but a lot! I got to ride around with Nell and live her day. I liked how she got home and had to put logs into the stove to make heat for the house. I found her life interesting in an everyday kind of way. I enjoyed how she used her “church speak” to her advantage. I loved how Nell put her own father in his place when no one else could. Not even the Mamas. Go Nell!! I loved how Nell’s love life changed and she had to do a lot of soul searching to figure out what to do. The “will they/won’t they” between Occam and Nell was palpable. I could nearly feel the tense vibes that Occam was sending. Why tense? Well, there is a new man on the scene. If you are on team Occam, you’d better dive in and see what it’s about.
You think that’s all? Um, no. There is still the whole Brother Ephram thing, the vampire tree thing, and the Mindy “Mud” thing. There is a whole lot happening in this book. I was riveted, and the conclusion was very satisfying.
Now, I read a blog that claims this is the end of the series. Oh, boy. I hope not. I still want to be a part of Nell’s life. I want to ride with her on her journey of life. In some ways, she is wiser than a woman twice her age, and in other ways, she’s as wise as a girl half her age. It’s a interesting and engrossing kind of story.
