Nervous Nellie says…

I’m going to be straight with you.  I was disappointed in this story.  I realize it was a short – 149 pages, but the writing was like a bunch of writers took a character and wrote their Christmas then smooshed all of the works together to complete the book.

It felt weird.  I’d be reading along about one character and at the end of the sentence the next character would start his/her thing.  It was just plain weird.  Fans of the Protectors series will want to read this just to get a Protectors fix, but it isn’t the best work our favorite vampires have gone and done.

There is a bit of innuendo and lead on to sex but no descriptive stuff.  There is a lot, and I mean A LOT of f-bombs dropped.  I didn’t recall that many in prior books, though I do remember them.  There wasn’t any death scenes.  Mostly everything that played out was at the compound and it was warriors and mates talking, growling or kissing one another.  There really wasn’t any development to the story, but it was good for a fix.

I don’t feel that I can rate this story very high since it appears like it was slapped together at the last minute.  Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. It’s still good for a tide-me-over til the next book comes out.

Viktor by Teresa Gabelman

After having his life shattered by the woman who held his heart, Viktor Valentino put work before everything.

Title:  Viktor
Author: Teresa Gabelman
Series:  The Protectors series #13
Release date: April 27, 2019
Description:After having his life shattered by the woman who held his heart, Viktor Valentino put work before everything. Many years later, learning the truth behind his lover’s deceit, his anger shifts to the man responsible for not only her betrayal but her gruesome death. Viktor throws himself into finding him to not only appease his rage but to possibly save humanity.

Lacey Cruz has always wanted to be a writer, but she’s never had the chance to pursue her passion. After being fired from a company she was employed with since graduating high school, she now has plenty of time on her hands.

Lover of all things paranormal, Lacey sets out to do research in hopes that special something will fall in her lap. Something does in the guise of a powerful vampire warrior. What Lacey doesn’t realize is she may be the heroine in her own real-life novel.

Nervous Nellie’s nervousness necessitates knowledge of the novel. In other words …SPOILERS. *BEWARE*

Nervous Nellie says…

This is about the Dark Guardian Victor and a sassy novelist, Lacey.  The beginning starts out hilarious being that Lacey has a blind date with a so -called vampire so she can do research on her romance story.

I learned about Victor and his brother Bishop.  I learned more about the witches – Bonnie included.

There really isn’t much more to say other than the story fits the same template excepting different characters and events.  It kind of feels like the more that is added on to the Protectors series the less viable plots are available.  It was ok.  Not a high rater, but it’s ok.

Nell’s Book Hunt 3/3/19

Welcome to my Sunday book hunt and author gossip.  Keep coming back for updates on book releases and news from favorite authors.

Back with new releases again… they keep writin’ them, we keep readin’ them.

  • I really love The Protectors series by Teresa Gabelman.  I know, it’s vampire romance that isn’t really deep, mind stretching literature, but it’s a guilty pleasure.  I figure everyone needs to veer from their normal genre into a little bit of easy reading.

TitleNicole
Author:  Teresa Gabelman
Series:  The Mate #1
Release date:  February 27, 2019
Description: Nicole Callahan, mate to fierce and brooding VC Warrior Damon DeMasters, has been trying to find her place in his world. Without a doubt, it’s been interesting, but she believes there’s a lot more she can offer the children she spent so much of her human life fighting for.

The Mate series delves into the kickass world of the Warriors’ mates and how united, they can make a difference—just like their badass Protectors. Follow along to see how these exceptional women’s newfound freedom affect those around them and which Warrior may or may not support their feisty independent mate’s new and exciting path.

  • This does not have to do with a new release.  I was excited to find a website that is dedicated to “geek” jewelry.  It’s amazing and it’s not junk jewelry.  This is high quality stuff associated with books like The Dresden Files or The Iron Druid Chronicles.  There is also Zombie related jewelry or Prince Dracul a/k/a Dracula – his signet ring.  It’s fun to look at, but remember, this is quality stuff so it has a price tag that might be a little more spendy than expected.  Oh, and check out the animal section.  There are some very beautiful pieces.  The website is called  Badali Jewelry.

I’m delinquent on the Kris Michaels front.  She has released three books and they are all from the Kings of Guardian series.  I am a rotten, rotten supporting fan.  Seriously? Who doesn’t read a new release the minute it comes out?  I should be punished.  Yes, put me in a room, all alone, with nothing but a blanket, bathroom, recliner and those three books.  Yeah…that’ll teach me.

Title:  Drake
Author: Kris Michaels
Series: Kings of Guardian #11
Release date: October 30, 2018
Description: Life wasn’t fair. Drake Simmons and his identical twin, Dixon, had had that lesson beaten into them early and well. Their past had so savaged their souls no amount of “confronting their demons” could heal them, but Drake’s twin refused to acknowledge that truth. For the first time in decades, Drake watched Dixon embark on a dangerous assignment without him. So, he did the only thing he could do; he prayed hard and pushed forward. While visiting with an old mentor, Drake’s past reintroduced itself in the shapely form of one hell of a distraction. Her name was Dr. Jillian Law, and it appeared people were intent on killing her.

Of all the people in the world her father could have asked to protect her, why did it have to be him? She’d known Drake, and of course Dixon—you didn’t get one without the other—through her teens and early twenties. For years, she’d painfully adored Drake with the raw passion a young woman could only feel for her first love. He’d never viewed her as anything other than a friend, and she’d hidden her feelings behind her thick glasses and shy behavior. Since then, she’d earned her Ph.D. and had invented a solar power source that provided almost limitless, cheap, energy— a device for which someone was willing to kill her. If circumstances were determined to throw them together again, the least she could do was make Drake see her as Dr. Jillian Law. She wasn’t “Silly Jilly” anymore. The girl was gone, forever, but the woman who remained had never forgotten Drake.

Though torn and distracted by the absence of his twin, Drake grows to realize this benign shadow from his past might be the key to his future—if he can keep her alive.

Title:  Dixon
Author: Kris Michaels
Series: Kings of Guardian #12
Release date: February 26, 2019
Description:   Alone, isolated from the vast resources of Guardian, Dixon Simmons reentered a world that had left him impossibly damaged as a child. He stepped back into that evil by choice. To protect all he’d come to love, he was willing to pay whatever price was demanded—even if the price was his soul.

She went by many names. Her true identity was as dead as her heart. Until him. The man was every bit as lethal as she was and deliciously sexy. Dixon Simmons piqued her interest, and what started as lust turned into another “L” word. She gave a “forever after” with him no hope. They’d have to stay alive for that to happen.

Caught in a violent abyss of ultimate malevolence and ominous threats, two damned souls find in each other a redemptive love that defies reason. However, redemption comes at a high cost. They must first save the world from a merciless force known only as Stratus.
