Publisher’s DescriptionA single night can change your life… for the worst.

It’s been a century since the last Centennial Storm, the calamitous phenomenon that covered the world in disasters– tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, tsunamis, and dust storms– caused not by nature, but by alien creatures from another realm. The Stormkind.

Ava Reid tries not to think about that night, when she was caught in a hurricane and brought face to face with one of the Stormkind, the man with a dagger, and the agony she felt when he stabbed her with a crystal blade. Yet as she and the rest of Florida’s citizens begin to rebuild their lives, Ava can’t help but notice strange things happening around her. Things she seems to be causing. The gusts of wind and sudden floods attract the attentions of a mysterious stranger who leaves her clues, and the deadlier men following her.

It isn’t long before Ava is swept up into a wild conspiracy, led by a secret society that knows the truth about the Stormkind– and what their enemies have planned for the world she loves. If she wishes to protect her friends and her family, Ava must harness her strange new abilities and become part of the Stormkind society. Because if she loses control, there will be no force strong enough to stop her…

Possible spoilers beyond this point.

“Mornings without coffee are not mornings.  They’re a sign that the end is on its way, and we should all be running for the nearest shelter.”

Mankind has learned to control almost everything in his environment, except for severe weather. Tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, dust storms — they all have the potential to ruin in seconds what humans have spent decades or even centuries building. Our inability to win against such raw, destructive power is part of what makes it fascinating to us.  We study it and dream about mastering it; she who can control the weather can control the world.

For Ava, controlling the weather is both powerful and horrifying.  Caught up in an experiment by a fanatic faction of nature guardians, Ava becomes the strongest hybrid of Stormkind — an elemental weather spirit — and human to ever exist.  But before she can fully master her powers, she’s stuck in a war that threatens to destroy Earth, and learns that, if she cannot control her powers, she will become the biggest threat of all.

badge3v4If you’re a fan of action, you’re going to love Storm Born.  Between explosive weather and intense fighting, the action is practically non-stop!  If you prefer a little tenderness, Ava and her Guardian, Hadrian, develop a special bond that goes beyond student and teacher.  I think Storm Born will appeal to fans of young adult novels as well, since much of the book is about Ava coming into her own power despite all the people who seek to control her.
