Nell’s Opinion and Book Hunt

Reading.  Such a lovely word. Sometimes, however it’s not such a successful state of mind to reach.  I know I’m really ill when I can’t focus on reading.  Sometimes, I go through a reading slump. According to the definition in the Urban Dictionary, it basically means I can’t decide on what book to read next because nothing sounds good.

When that happens, I do one of three things.

1. Binge watch a TV show
2. Read my magazines that have stockpiled
3. Read a romance

Binge watching a TV show is the easiest as long as I have a TV show in which I’m interested.  Thank you, creators of Netflix, Hulu and the ON DEMAND section of my satellite TV.  Also, thanks to Ivana who finds these shows for me to watch.  Her last suggestion was awesome, by the way.

I am an e-magazine reader.  There are awesome magazines out there that I’ve never found on a newsstand, but since they are available via electronic format, I don’t have to worry.  My favorite e-magazine newsstands are: PocketMags and Zinio.  I think Zinio has dropped it’s game as of late because some of the more obscure reads aren’t available anymore. I can shop the best subscription price or issue price.  Often times they have special deals that let you try several magazines for a pittance.  That is really helpful when I won’t spend $4.99 for an issue but .99 sounds just fine.

Lastly, I revert to my core beginnings of reading.  Harlequin Romance or anything simple will suffice.  It can’t have a major plot. It can’t be a series.  Just a hot guy romancing a relate-able woman will do.  Why does the guy have to be hot?  Uh…duh?  These romances are what I started reading at the age of 14.  At that time, and maybe they still do, had Teen Romances.

When I break my reading slump, it’s a joyful time.  Sometimes, I think it’s a ‘cleansing of the palate’ kind of thing.  All I know is that reading does for me what crafting, cleaning, gardening, biking, walking or whatever else kind of relaxing thing there is does for other people.
